Crushed Basalt Stone Material

This 1/4" minus basalt rock fines make for an excellent decomposed granite alternative when you are seeking a dark colored material. The strong red brown color of Cowboy Coffee D. G. make it a great contrast material for use a pathway or casual patio surface in most gardens and landscapes.
This is a new material to the California landscape market. This a crushed basalt, a dark hard rock material that will stand the test against heavy traffic or just the effects if seasonal weather. Bold rich brown colors with hints a deep green colors. Naming this popular road engineering material for landscape use was easy. When I saw the colors it reminded me right away of the coffee my mother and other horse trainers & riders used to brew out at the ranches morning and night, bold and strong.
Cowboy Coffee Gravel is screened into:
3/4" Screened
3/4" Minus with fines
3/8" Minus, no fines
1/4" Minus pathway blend

This product and similar materials are best used at the rates of:
1 Ton per 100 square feet in a 2-1/2 inch deep layer.
1 Cu. Yard per 125 square feet in a 2-1/2 inch deep layer.

One Ton of Decomposed Granite, Decorative Gravel or Rock Covers:
240 square feet. 1" deep. This is too shallow.
120 square feet. 2" deep. Thins out over short amount of time.
100 square feet. 2-1/2" deep. Very good coverage.
80 square feet . 3" deep. Ideal long term coverage.
60 square feet . 4" deep. Best for materials of 2" or larger.


One Square Yard of Decomposed Granite, Decorative Gravel or Rock Covers:
300 square feet. 1" deep. This is too shallow.
150 square feet - 2" deep. Thins out over short amount of time.
125 square feet - 2-1/2" deep. Very good coverage.
100 square feet - 3" deep. Ideal long term coverage.
75 square feet - 4" deep. Best for materials of 2" or larger.

The square foot coverage per ton of gravel will vary slightly with the surface and designs of the project, waste etc. will affect area coverage. The information is based on average ton and cubic yard amounts. This decorative building stone has naturally occurring colors and shade variations. These are what gives this stone the natural beauty and uniqueness that causes its appeal. Color tones change can sometimes occur with aging or maintenance practices of the location it is installed at therefore exact matching of existing stone may not always occur.
