Flagstone for sale by the ton or the pallet
Every color above is for sale by the ton or by the pallet, with samples available if you are still choosing. Pick a size and cut on any product page and it shows the current cost per ton for that exact stone.
Thickness is what moves your tonnage most. Thinner patio-gauge stone is lighter per square foot, so a ton covers more area. Thicker standup stone weighs more per square foot and covers less. That is why two patios of identical size can need noticeably different tonnage, and why comparing cost per ton between gauges can mislead.
How much flagstone do I need?
Measure length times width for square footage. As a planning figure, one ton of patio flagstone covers roughly 80 to 120 square feet, with thin stone at the high end and thick standup stone at the low end. Add about 10 percent for cuts and breakage, since flagstone gets trimmed to fit and the odd piece breaks. Run your dimensions through the coverage calculator, or read how much flagstone do I need.
Do not forget the layers underneath. A dry-laid patio needs about 4 inches of compacted base gravel and 1 inch of bedding sand before the stone goes down. Flagstone stepping stones
Any flagstone above can be laid as flagstone stepping stones across a lawn or through a gravel bed. In a stepping path each piece carries weight on its own, without neighbors to support it, so choose thicker patio stone and set every piece on a compacted base so it does not rock. For stone already sized for a stepping path, shop steppers.
What kind of rock is flagstone?
Flagstone rock is any stone that splits into flat slabs. The flagstones for sale here are mostly sandstone, with quartzite as the second largest group and a few slates and limestones. Sandstone gives the warm Arizona tans, reds and golds; quartzite is harder and carries a visible sparkle. Every color is sold by the ton or the pallet.
Flagstone prices: cost per ton
Flagstone at Earth Stone Rock starts at $179.99 a ton for Storm Mountain Silver and $239.99 for Autumn Gold. Thirty of our colors cost under $400 a ton, the middle of the range runs about $380 to $700, and the premium quartzites and specialty stones such as Fossil Creek reach about $850. Every product page also sells a half ton (1,000 lb) and shows the exact price for each cut before checkout. For large flagstone, choose steppers for oversize stepping stones already cut to size, or stone slabs for single pieces big enough for a step or a bench.
