Central Arizona rock quarry shipping bulk throughout Arizona and Southern California. SuperEarth-sack material is also available in California.
Produced from a large deposit of Phyllite, Black Cherry is a mixture of dark red an black colors with considerable pink seams within the stone. This product makes an attractive ground cover for many applications and is especially popular in northern Arizona. This mixture provides one of the most unique looks in decorative gravel. Black Cherry is quarried in the mountains of northern Arizona and is very limited in supply and that results those who use having a unique look setting their yards apart from other landscapes.

This is not the same as the Black Cherry stone material sold in the Mid-West, this is a flint-stone product.
Phyllite is a type of foliated metamorphic rock created from slate that is further metamorphosed so that very fine grained white mica achieves a preferred orientation. It is primarily composed of quartz, sericite mica, and chlorite. Phyllite has fine-grained mica flakes in a preferred orientation, whereas slate has extremely fine clay flakes that achieve a preferred orientation, and schist has large flakes in a preferred orientation.
Decomposed Granite and Crushed Stone Fines are not the same materials. Decomposed granite has a natural coarse look to it with irregular round quartz pebbles. Crushed stone products tend to be more flat and have a higher amount of fine material. Crushed stone products, granite, sandstone, limestone and others offer a greater array of natural colors to work with than most true decomposed granite materials.
Decomposed Granite Per Ton
As a general rule of 3/8" or 1/4" of crushed stone or decomposed granite material will cover a little over 100 square feet of an ground area at a 2-1/2" depth.
Decomposed Granite Per Yard
As a general rule 1 cubic yard of 3/8" or 1/4" of crushed stone or decomposed granite material will cover 125 square feet in a 2-1/2" inch layer. A cubic yard of moist crushed stone fines or decomposed granite material weighs more or less 3,000 pounds.

A proper DG surface does not move underfoot like sand or gravel, but its porosity allows water to penetrate to the soil below. That aspect makes DG or crushed stone fines a good paving material around trees and shrubs.
The standard application process is to spread about 2" of DG or crushed stone fines, water it thoroughly then compact it with a water filled sod roller, hand tamper or use a vibra plate it to settle. Then repeat the process with at least another 1" to 2" layer for extra depth for stability.
