White Decomposed Granite
White Decomposed Granite & Crushed Stone Fines
There are not a lot of white color tones of decomposed granite or crushed stone fines materials. Usually upon close up inspection these materials have black granite or other darker colored stone elements in the material. From a distance though these materials are bright white. Depending upon the color tone these materials can make a soft or bold impact in a garden, landscape or driving area.

As a general rule 1 ton, 2,000 pounds, of 3/4", 1/2" and 3/8" crushed rock or decomposed granite will cover a little over 100 square feet of an ground area at a 2-1/2" depth.
As a general rule 1 cubic yard, 3,000 pounds of 3/4", 1/2" and 3/8" of crushed stone or decomposed granite will cover 125 square feet in a 2-1/2" inch layer.
Decomposed granite and crushed stone products are commonly used for decorative walkways, patio & outdoor living areas, planter beds, light duty driveways, water wise landscaping, dog runs, utility and side yard areas.

Whether for driveways, pathways, patios, utility landscape areas or to surround trees, crushed stone or decomposed granite can be a versatile material that prevents weed growth, maintain even soil moisture and makes an outdoor space more appealing. These two are not the same material, though. Decomposed granite has a natural coarse look to it, while crushed stone products tend to be more flat and have a higher amount of fine material. Crushed stone products, granite, sandstone, limestone and others offer a greater array of natural colors to work with than most true decomposed granite materials.

A proper DG surface does not move underfoot like sand or gravel, but its porosity allows water to penetrate to the soil below. That aspect makes DG or crushed stone fines a good paving material around trees and shrubs.
The standard application process is to spread about 2" of DG or crushed stone fines, water it thoroughly then compact it with a water filled sod roller, hand tamper or use a vibra plate it to settle. Then repeat the process with the last 1" to 2" layer for extra depth for stability.
